Graduate Mechanical Engineer

Graduate Mechanical Engineer, Motherwell, £14.50 per hour, Full-time, Permanent, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (30-minute lunch break)

About The Role

We are seeking a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team within the commercial vehicle sector. In this role, you will support the design, development, and continuous improvement of innovative, high-quality products. You will work closely with production, sales, and purchasing teams to translate customer requirements into practical engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

  • 3D CAD Modelling: Produce detailed 3D models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
  • Manufacturing Drafting: Create precise fabrication, welding, and assembly drawings for production.
  • Project Management: Support engineering projects from initial concept through to final manufacture.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Liaise with sales to capture customer requirements and produce job packs.
  • Technical Support: Assist the production floor by resolving manufacturing queries and engineering issues.

 

Requirements

  • Education: HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or currently working towards one), or an equivalent qualification.
  • Software Skills: Proven experience using 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor highly preferred) and AutoCAD.
  • Technical Literacy: Solid understanding of engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning, and fabrication tolerances.
  • Industry Knowledge: A foundational grasp of manufacturing processes (e.g., sheet metal fabrication, welding, assembly).
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with suppliers, purchasing, and workshop staff.
